Etude2 questions about the hook PDF Correo electrónico

Etude2 hook and rubber measurements

The measurements of the inside of the rubber cover of the new metal hook are exactly the same as those of the "old" Etude.

These measurements where found after long experiments and taken from tables with measurements used for industrial design.
The Etude2 covers an avarage of hands. Approximately  75 to 80 percent.
(See Etude2 for small hands)

Etude2 hook adjustment in height

The hook of the new Etude2 is NOT adjastable in height anymore.

It appeared that, when the hook had been adjusted lower,  most musicians where not playing in this new fashion of keeping the thumb a little bent and carrying actively.
Instead, they where using the "old way" of "hanging" in the tendons and pulling up the tip of the thumb.
This may cause trouble again, so I decided to change this.

The thumb rest should be adjusted lower on the mounting slide. (a few clicks down)

Only shortly ago I had a female musician with very small hands who wanted to have her hook readjusted and lowered
After a while I saw that the mounting slide was way too high on the instrument.
The top side of the mounting slide has to be approx. 25 mm down from the top of the lower joint of the clarinet.  (18 mm with the Oboe)
This enables enough adjustability.

Etude2 for small (or large hands)

Of course we cannot cover the entire range of small slender or larger hands.
For the really small hands we are right now designing a new extra rubber cover that "fills in the gap" so to speak..

(Musicians with large hands may remove the rubber cover and glue some thinner soft material inside the hook. This will do the trick)

Etude2 hook turning

The hook can still be turned as could the previous model.

This is done for flexibility and for the use with smaller hands

Always bend your thumb just a bit !!!
this will make sure that you make good contact with the hook!
